DR GERALD BENJAMIN STRESSES COLLABORATION AS KEY TO MEETING LOCAL TOWN BUDGET DEMANDS

In Dr Gerald Benjamin's keynote speech at NDA's annual breakfast meeting held February 7th at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, , Benjamin cited highway services and public employee health insurance plans as several areas where local communities can collaborate to save taxpayers money and improve services. Benjamin said strong committed leadership is needed to move forward. Benjamin is the Director of The Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO), whose mission is to conduct studies on topics of regional interest; bring visibility and focus to these matters; foster communities working together to better serve citizenry; and advance the public interest in our region.

NORTHERN DUTCHESS ALLIANCE AND THE TOWN OF HYDE PARK PARTNER TO STUDY SHARED MUNICIPAL SERVICES

Under the New York State tax cap, municipalities will come under increasing pressure to work together to address quality of life issues to accommodate future growth while protecting the resources that it values. This effort is focused on assisting communities in identifying possible shared services projects which are appropriate and consistent with the desires of the particular communities. The research is being conducted by the Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach at SUNY New Paltz and was made possible by funds received from the Hudson River Valley Greenway. Stay tuned for updates on this important project.
